Photographer Roxanne Wilm makes her debut with her first solo exhibition ‘Microcosme’ and ‘Order | Disorder’ in Amsterdam
Exhibition at Mina Gallery from 02 - 30 August 2024, Weteringschans 69, Amsterdam
The exhibition consists of two parts. In the photo series 'Microcosme', the body is used in unconventional ways, inviting the viewer to reinterpret the relationship between the body and its parts. The series Order | Disorder shows the external influences on the individual, made visible through 320 analog photos projected onto self-portraits using a slide projector.
Microcosme – The body as a Wonderland, 2024
The title "Microcosme" is French, derived from "micro," meaning small, and "cosme," meaning world. The series 'Microcosme - The body as a wonderland' (2024) is a continuation of her first photo series from 2016, in which the body is seen as a mysterious and extraordinary landscape where emotions are visible. In this series, Roxanne aims to have the viewer look at the body in a new way. By using alienating compositions and diverse materials, inspired by her background in theater, she offers an intriguing perspective on the human form.

Order | Disorder, 2019
Artist: Roxanne Wilm
Technique: Mixed media installation
In the installation 'Order | Disorder' (2019), the daily influences on our lives are depicted through extreme order and regularity. This order forms a larger system consisting of various subsystems that people have created to shape the world. Simultaneously, this world is constantly presenting us with news of crises, wars, and the exhaustion of the planet. The installation shows how this chaos and these problems can overwhelm us while we try to lead a comfortable life within our own system.
